One of the things that I do to make myself walk a little more in New York every day is to only go to lunch at places that are more than five blocks away from work. If I do this, I will walk 10 blocks without really thinking about it and get out of the office for a little while; something that helps me to concentrate and be more productive in the time that I am at work.
Now walking isn’t for everyone, and some people will not want to walk to work or go somewhere far away for lunch, so for those people I recommend that they focus more on their nutrition than on fitness. For most people, lunchtime is a time where you go out and get food because it is a certain time of day. Regardless of how hungry you are, you will go out and get lunch at that time because it’s what is expected of you or you just need to get away from work. If you are going out to lunch and you are not hungry, it means that you are eating too much for breakfast or dinner the night before and you really need to reevaluate your meal choices. If you don’t believe that your meal choices are the problem, then you could also try eating only when you are hungry. Each day, when you think about going to get food just ask yourself if you are really hungry. If you aren’t, stay in the office or just go for a walk. When you do get hungry, you can go get food. The important thing is that if you don’t get hungry until before dinner, you really need to consume less food each meal because your body is telling you that you don’t need food during the day because it already has enough.
